Portstewart promenade is busy, busy, busy as usual. Even though the weather is touch and go, this never stops the stream of people seeking a good day out along the front in the Port.
Ice cream parlours and cafes are brimming and, as always, one hears the pleasant hum of cars slowly making their way along, people taking in the gorgeous scenery across the harbour to the Donegal hills in the distance. Family’s stroll, as one still sees in many towns in Italy and France at this time of year, ice creams in hand, children full of excitement, or tired from a day on the beach park, but still soaking up the last moments of a “day at the Port”.
And those lucky ones who arent going home just yet, but have booked into a Bed and Breakfast for the night, somewhere like Knock House on Central Avenue. Only a stroll from the Promenade and they can unwind in the delightful rooms with ensuite facilities. Or sit by the fire (on chilly nights) and pass the evening listening to music or chatting. What will the little ones be dreaming of as they are tucked into the comfy beds at Knock House? Why another day “in the Port” of course! A dream come true for children, and all the “young at heart”, because everyone remembers those long, sandy days of play and sweets and Mummy and Daddy buying candy floss or lollies!
Knock House, Central Avenue has bee hosting family holidays in Portstewart since the 1930s. Come along and enjoy the timeless treat of a day or two in a traditional seaside town.
